Chicago – Tedd Determan, founder of Force Diagnostics, today announced a new point-of-care rapid test – SalivaScan – that can identify smokers among insurance applicants.

“Nicotine is a critical component of risk assessment because of its health consequences to the insured and its impact on life insurance profitability,” said Determan. “Within just a few minutes, SalivaScan, accurately detects the presence of Cotinine, the first-state metabolite of nicotine. The results provide the assurance that companies need to confidently issue a policy.”

SalivaScan™ oral fluid drug test is accurate and easy-to-use. It includes the first rapid diagnostic sponge saturation indicator on the market. The indicator strip in the collection swab changes color once the sponge contains enough saliva – eliminating the need to retest due to inadequate samples. The swab locks into the device for a tamper evident and airtight seal.

The test is designed to be administered at point-of-care locations including retail pharmacies and clinics as well as in workplace settings. The simple design of the device enables users to quickly learn how to administer the test.

"Enhancing the risk assessment process with rapid diagnostic tests is a game-changer for the life insurance industry,” added Determan, an entrepreneur with a proven track record of starting and developing new companies that serve life, health and long-term care insurance companies.

Working with companies who develop new chemistries and delivery techniques, Force Diagnostics acts as their co-development and marketing partner, specifically targeted for the life insurance industry.  Force Diagnostics is looking forward to announcing several new point-of-care rapid tests in the near term.
